Essential Requirements:
- High School Diploma is required.
- Minimum requirement of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential (or comparable credential) with training or equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant/toddler development; or
- Associates Degree with at least 12 semester hours of undergraduate or graduate credit in child development/early childhood education.
- Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within three months of hire.
- Head Start experience preferred but not required.
- Basic computer skills, photocopier/facsimile, and other technology related to job requirements.
- Basic knowledge of early childhood development across developmental domains.
- Ability to assist in implementation of curriculum and evaluation tools upon training.
- This position is eligible for VEOA VeteransA Preference.
- No history of child abuse or negligence.
- Successfully pass required background checks.
- Regular and dependable in person attendance is required and is considered a condition of employment.
- The assigned duties of this position are not eligible for remote work consideration.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements, Program Performance Standards, Nebraska Department of Education Rule 11 and Head Start policies and procedures.
- Utilize active supervision guidelines to ensure that all necessary and reasonable precautions are taken to protect children and monitor the learning environment for health and safety.
- Follow directions (both oral and written) in an efficient manner and assist with the preparation and supervision of various activities in the classroom, as directed by the Early Head Start teacher and/or other specialists.
- Support the EHS teacher in organizing and creating an inviting learning environment according to ITERS and curriculum standards. Assist in the implementation of a research based curriculum adopted by SCHS/ESU #3 and support individualization and growth of all children.
- Assist in helping children resolve conflicts and problem solve under the supervision and direction of the lead teacher.
- Assist in implementing teaching practices that focus on English language acquisition and include steps to support the development of the home language for dual language learners.
- Assist in authentic observation of children and utilize observational information as well as assessment data to plan and design appropriate activities for young children.
- Assist in fostering and sustaining positive relationships with parents and caregivers and provide support for required home visits and conferences when needed.
- Attend all professional development activities as required by SCHS.
- Participate in health and nutrition activities to include (but not limited to) CACFP, NapSACC, family style meals.
- Support and maintain a positive work environment through open communication and collaboration with SCHS co-workers, specialists and supervisors.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding co-workers, agency, family and child information.
- Other duties as assigned.
