Job Title:  Substitute Teacher for Elkhorn Public Schools           

Job Code: 1536

 

Number of Days Worked:  Varies based on needs of the district.  (120 Max) There are no guarantees that the employee will be called to work.

Department:  ESU #3 Substitute Program

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Immediate District Supervisor: District designated personnel

ESU #3 Supervisor:  Director, Business Services

Staff Supervised:  None

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  • No history of child abuse or negligence.
  • Must hold a valid Nebraska teaching certificate and placed on file in the ESU #3 Business Services Department by the Substitute Teacher.
  • Good communication skills to deal with people internal to the school system, as well as external.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job:  classroom instruction and supervision with a wide variety of needs in a regular and/or special education setting, maintain established routines and procedures set forth by classroom teacher and school.
  • Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job:  being attentive to detail, adapting to changing work priorities, communication with diverse groups, meeting deadlines and schedules, setting priorities, and working with confidential, detailed information/data.
  • Possess flexibility in job assignments.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Must display a professional attitude.

 

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

  • Understand and comply with the ESU #3 Board of Education Personnel Policies and Employee Handbook.
  • Understand and comply with the district’s Policies and Sub Teacher Handbook expectations of the substitute.
  • Meets and instructs students as outlined by the teacher to assigned classes in the locations and he time designated.
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Performs all extra duties for the absent teacher as required by the building principal.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required.
  • Assumes responsibilities for over-seeing student behavior in class and surrounding area.

 

At Will Employment:  Employment with ESU #3 is not for any period of time, and employment may be terminated at any time at the convenience of the terminating party, with or without cause, and with or without notice.  Employment with ESU #3 is not governed by any express or implied contract of employment containing terms different from or inconsistent with those stated in this job description. The terms of this job description may not be modified except in a writing signed by the ESU #3 Administrator.
